Moonlit City Returns: The Love Story Behind Singapore's Founding Takes Centre Stage Once Again

After a successful debut that attracted more than 7,000 theatre-goers in 2025, Moonlit City is set to make a highly anticipated return this August with a revitalised English production that promises to be bigger, richer and even more emotionally resonant.

Presented by PropNex and produced by Toy Factory Productions, Singapore's leading bilingual theatre company, the musical will run from 14 to 30 August 2026 at the historic Victoria Theatre.

Rather than retelling Singapore's political history, Moonlit City shines a spotlight on something far more intimate—the enduring love between Singapore's founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and his wife, Kwa Geok Choo.

The musical features eight beloved songs by celebrated Singapore composer Tan Kah Beng, including classics such as Moonlight in the City, The Sun After the Rain, Regret and Aroma.

For the first time, these Mandarin favourites have been thoughtfully adapted into English for the stage by playwright Jedidiah Huang and vocal arranger Elaine Chan, allowing a new generation of audiences to rediscover some of Singapore's most treasured songs.

Notably, Moonlit City remains the first theatre production inspired by Tan Kah Beng's iconic hit Moonlight in the City.

A Stellar Cast

Leading the production is acclaimed Singaporean baritone Alvin Julian Tan, portraying Lee Kuan Yew, opposite Sunny Yang, who reprises her acclaimed role as Kwa Geok Choo after winning praise in the 2025 production.

They are joined by an accomplished ensemble featuring returning performers alongside several exciting new faces, including Indonesian musical theatre actor Robertus Darren Radyan, bringing an international flavour to the production.
