The highly anticipated local original Chinese musical Journey to Singapura, created in celebration of SG60, premiered in April to overwhelming success and sold-out shows. Many expressed disappointment at being unable to secure tickets. Due to popular demand, the heartwarming musical will return for an encore season this October. Originally slated for two shows on October 25 and 26, all tickets were snapped up within a day of release on July 23, setting a new record for ticket sales in the local theatre scene.

In response to strong public demand, the team has decided to add an extra performance on Friday, October 24 at 8PM. Be sure to take note of the ticket release date and time—this is your chance to grab a seat for this unforgettable experience.

Full of positive energy and entertainment for all ages, the show combines meaningful messages with lively performances and catchy music. Bring the whole family or gather your friends and classmates for an experience that’s nothing short of spectacular.

Journey to Singapura is woven with many of Liang Wern Fook’s most beloved songs, which have been thoughtfully re-lyricized to fit the storyline. Liang also penned a brand-new theme song, “样样都精彩,” celebrating Singapore’s multicultural heritage and local culinary delights. This revamped version includes additional songs, refined storytelling, and upgraded choreography. It also welcomes new cast members, including veteran local performers Collin Chee, Nick Shen, Joy Yak and Dennis Toh.

Presented by Reverberance, the musical features lyrics and music by Cultural Medallion recipient Dr. Liang Wern Fook, who also serves as Artistic Director. The show is written and directed by acclaimed media personality Garrick Wong, with musical arrangements and direction by Sulwyn Lok. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Tan Ching Loon, Reverberance’s young musicians breathe new life into Liang’s classics with fresh arrangements, striking a balance between nostalgia and novelty.

The story follows Tang Sanzang and his disciples—Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing—on a magical journey after meeting the mystical Durian Master and his loyal assistants Tianfu and Tianshou. Through a fantastical time-travel adventure, they arrive in different eras of Singapore, encountering historical figures such as Sang Nila Utama, Sir Stamford Raffles, Samsui women, and Majie. Audiences will learn about Singapore’s nation-building journey while immersed in the charm of local culture and humor.

The production has already been invited to perform overseas in the coming year. After this encore season, local audiences may not get another chance to catch it live for some time. Whether you’ve seen it before and want to relive the magic, or you missed it the first time—don’t miss this opportunity!
