Fernandez Wins Singapore Tennis Open on Debut WTA 500 Edition

Sixth seed takes a straight-sets final as the tournament more than doubles its 2025 crowd Leylah Fernandez ended her week at The Kallang with the Singapore Tennis Open trophy in her hands and fireworks bursting behind her.
The sixth seed beat Talia Gibson 7-5, 6-0 in Sunday's final, 27 September. She became the first singles champion of the tournament's first WTA 500 edition. It was her sixth career title and her second at the WTA 500 level.
"It was a great week of tennis, of fight, of grit, and being able to cross that finish line to get that trophy makes it even sweeter," Fernandez said. She credited the crowd for her energy: "My best memory in every match this week would have to be the crowd – they gave me the extra energy to keep fighting."
She also spoke about the work behind the result. "It's been a lot of hard work in finding that right balance of attacking and defending, and today, everything clicked in the right place at the right time," she said. "Playing in Singapore has been an amazing experience and I can't wait to come back to experience this level of love again."
Routliffe and Sutjiadi take the doubles
The doubles final came first. Erin Routliffe and Aldila Sutjiadi beat Tang Qianhui and Xu Yifan 6-3, 6-2, after a closely contested start. It is their second title together this year.
"We're lucky to be able to play together and build a partnership," the pair said. They called the Singapore Tennis Open "a great large-scale tournament" and hoped for "more events such as this in the region". "We have big goals and are so excited for the rest of the year," they added.
A tournament for the wider public
Organiser The Kallang Group drew about 50,000 fans over the nine days from 19 to 27 September. That is more than double the 2025 attendance. For the first time, The Kallang App had a dedicated tournament hub for match information, activities, rewards and offers.
Off court, The Kallang Spotlight, powered by The Collective, brought together leaders, athletes and industry voices. They discussed leadership, world-class experiences and the growth of women's sport.
Young players get their moment
The Kallang Tennis Hub also hosted the World Tennis Asia 12 & Under Team Competition Finals and the Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup (STIC). The Singapore Tennis Association organised STIC with The Kallang Group, and it ran from 23 to 26 September. Singapore defended its STIC title with a 3-2 win over Indonesia, a repeat of the 2025 final. Malaysia took third place, beating Cambodia 3-1.
