5 Singaporean female models you should know

When we think of famous models, it’s often the likes of Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Tyra Banks. But in fact, we don’t need to look too far! Here on our little red dot, we do have an impressive list of famous female models who have made their mark in the fashion industry. These 5 female models are not only talented, but they’re incredibly gorgeous too!

She may be young, but Diya Prabhakar is already taking the modelling scene by storm – not only in Singapore but also overseas. The 21-year old supermodel in-the-making is represented by The Industry Model Management New York as well as Storm Management in London – which is where Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell first started out. She’s also walked the runway for Alexander Wang, Dolce & Gabbana and Prabu Gurung and was featured in Marie Claire UK, Grazia China and Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore. Now that’s an outstanding portfolio!

2. Layla Ong

Layla Ong is definitely a familiar face as many of us have seen her on Asia’s Next Top Model Season 5. Although she was fourth out of 14 girls to get the cut, Layla continued pursuing her dream and went on to model for brands such as Claudia Li, Pomelo, and even Gucci for Milan Fashion Week. Her journey is proof that rejection and failure is all part and parcel of life – if you’re faced with difficulties, face them, accept them and then move on!

3. Andrea Razali

Andrea Razali is not only Singapore’s first transgender model – she’s also an activist, makeup artist and businesswoman. Boasting a 10-year experience in the fashion industry, Andrea recounts how life wasn’t always all sunshine and rainbows as she first struggled with her identity. In fact, she lived 23 years of her life as a Singaporean man and even went for NS! Today, the 1.75m-tall beauty is busy modelling under Phantom Models and managing her hair extension business, Andrea and Weave.

4. Hanis Hussey

Hanis Hussey was the Naomi Campbell of Singapore. Not only was she the first ever Singaporean model to catwalk for Paris Fashion Week, she also closed Yves Saint Laurent’s 1983 Fall/Winter show. As if that isn’t impressive enough, she was also handpicked to be YSL’s in-house model and was the catwalk coach of Miss Universe Singapore. Some other popular brands that she’s worked with include Christian Dior, Givenchy and Balmain.

5. Nadia Rahmat

Nadia Rahmat is a special gem – and this is proven since she was selected out of 50,000 people to be the face of Marc Jacob’s Spring 2015 campaign. In 2017, she strutted down the runway for Gin Lee at Singapore Fashion Week and later went on to be represented by Upfront Models. Fun fact: while Nadia still models, she is currently working as the Events, Marketing & VIP Manager at Kilo Collective!
