Sammi Zhen Takes the Mic Solo: Love Cannot Wait 爱,不能等

After 27 years in drag, the Singapore entertainer steps into her first stand-up show, with a story she says audiences shouldn't wait to hear.
"We often spend so much time loving others that we forget to be kind to ourselves," says Sammi Zhen. "I've learnt that loving yourself means accepting who you are, recognising your worth and giving yourself permission to be happy. Love cannot wait, and that includes the love you give yourself."
That idea sits at the heart of The Sammi Zhen Show: Love Cannot Wait 爱,不能等, the Singapore drag performer's first official solo stand-up comedy show. It takes place on 23 October 2026 at the Inspire Space Auditorium.
Sammi, whose real name is Christopher Lim, has entertained audiences in drag since 1999. This time she is stepping out on her own, with a 90-minute set that mixes her signature humour with candid storytelling.
A brush with death, told with humour
Many of us assume there will be more time to say "I love you", to reconnect with someone, or simply to be present. For Sammi, a brush with death shattered that assumption and changed how she sees the people and moments that matter most.
In Love Cannot Wait, she tells that frightening chapter with honesty and humour. She hopes it will make audiences ask what they might be putting off in their own lives.
The person behind the glamour
The show draws on a 27-year performing career and on the experiences and sacrifices behind the glamour. Her journey has included creative discovery, family misunderstandings, professional uncertainty and a long search for acceptance. These shape the show's themes of love, relationships and making time for one another.
Sammi's path began in a nightclub, where a club owner noticed her stage presence and invited her to make announcements at the venue. Having studied performing arts at NAFA, she went on to forge her own creative direction through drag, working across nightlife venues and private events. The result is a style that blends glamour, humour and connection with the audience.
Her life story has also reached the screen. Her experience of balancing a demanding career with caring for an ageing parent with dementia inspired the award-nominated Singaporean feature film A Good Child (2025). She also served as a creative consultant on the music comedy film Number 1 (2020). Grounded in what she calls the "School of Life", she continues to champion drag as a form of performance art in Southeast Asia.
Proudly local
The show is in English, heavily peppered with local colloquialisms, Singlish and observations on regional cultures and languages, which gives it a distinctly local voice. Beyond the laughs, it also opens a conversation about planning ahead as an act of love, and how thoughtful arrangements today can give loved ones greater peace of mind tomorrow.
The show's tagline sums it up: Say it. Show it. Make time for it. Because love cannot wait.
The team behind the show
The show is produced by Roger "Ah Hao" 阿浩 and William Tan 陈家辉.
Ah Hao is a live entertainment producer, digital content creator and host. After a decade-long police career, he launched Ah Hao See Ghosts in December 2021. In July 2026 he made his live show producing debut with The Final Destination of Life (人生终点站) at Centre 42.
William is a lifestyle content creator, livestream host and influencer marketing professional. He has created content since 2008 and has worked with an artiste agency. He also organised Mr World Singapore in 2022 and has worked with more than 50 brands since he began livestreaming in 2023.
