Robbie Hoyes-Cock is the founder of Podium Lounge, the ultimate A-List party for the racing community, hosting Formula 1™ drivers, teams, Royalty, celebrities, ambassadors, supermodels and the who’s who of jet-setting party elite each year.
Interview with Robbie:
1. What makes a night out/party successful in your opinion?
A party is only successful if it is spell binding. You need to create such a mind- blowing impact that people are spell-bound for days and talk about the event for weeks and months afterwards. That is what we always try to achieve with our annual Podium Lounge event over the Grand Prix Weekend (Fri 19 – Sun 21 September), which we have been organizing at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia since 2009.
Our special focus is always on ensuring the right ultra-exclusive guests list, combining celebrities, royalty, supermodels, musicians and the who’s who of Asia jet set party circuit. We always ensure a number of big name talent bookings and this year we welcome Stéphane Pompougnac, the DJ behind the legendary compilation series ‘Hôtel Costes – Mixed by Stéphane Pompougnac’ as the Headline DJ for our Opening Night! Hôtel Costes is known for being a lavish and hip hotel in Paris’ Les Halles district. If you’re a lover of sexy, French house tunes, you will undoubtedly recognise the compilation mixes that the hotel has been releasing annually since 1999. Miami based house DJ, musician and record producer Ian Carey is Headlining The Podium Lounge Singapore on Saturday 20th and Nadia Ali, one of the most recognizable and in-demand voices in electronic music will be headlining The Podium Lounge on Race Night, Sunday 21 September.
2. How is Podium Lounge different from other events being organized by other clubs here?
The Podium Lounge venue is within The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore’s Grand Ballroom, where we are spending over $250,000 to transform the ballroom into a glamorous ultra lounge. We combine luxury brand showcases (such as the new Lamborghini Huracán and deLaCour our Presenting Sponsor) with fashion (Gnossem’s nightly fashion circuit includes top designers such as Ashley Isham and Tex Saverio, the Winner of the Mercedes-Benz Asia Fashion Award known as the “Alexander McQueen of Indonesia”) with celebrity guest hosts (Former F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneueve and Freddie Hunt, the son of British F1 Racing Legend James Hunt on whom the film Rush was made) with models (we’ll be exclusively revealing the 12 contestants of Supermodel Me’s Season 5 contestants at The Podium Lounge on Race Night who will be presented by celebrity host and model, Lisa S.) with formidable VIP Table service, a high octane after-race celebration vibe and the region’s party elite.
We are also, for the first time and in association with Vitisasia, Asia’s premier wine and gastronomy experience provider, rolling out 2 Race Dinners at The Ritz- Carlton, Millenia Singapore with Quique Dacosta of his eponymous 3 Michelin starred restaurant in Denia, Spain. In Singapore for the first time, Chef Quique Dacosta will be designing & preparing the dinners complemented with Castell d’Encus on Friday 19th and Château Margaux on Saturday.
3. What does it take to be an entrepreneur?
You have to love your field, because as an entrepreneur you have to be committed to putting in 20-hour days. I’m submitting this email interview at 4am on a Monday night.
You have to have a flawless reputation, because you only have one chance to establish yourself in your particular field representing your brand name.
You’re only as good as your last event in my business, which is why we always go over the top to make sure each individual event is a sell-out success. This is our sixth year for The Podium Lounge Singapore so raising the bar each year is a challenge that I relish.
4. Do you have any advice for budding entrepreneurs?
I have a Bachelor of Law degree from a prestigious University in the UK. It’s a good fall back, but what they teach you in three years at University, you could very easily learn in three months on the job. So get stuck in, there really is nothing to wait for. Life is short and opportunities surround us. Learn from the best and adapt to what they do to become a success yourself.
