1965 is a movie commemorating Singapore’s 50 years of independence. Its executive producer Daniel Yun has said it is not a documentary drama or a biopic of Mr Lee, but “Mr Lee will be one of the characters in the film”. It is about how fragile racial harmony is and how we take it for granted.
Synopsis:
It is a dramatic thriller that uses a piece of Singapore history like never before and tells engaging and touching stories of immigrants and natives during the time leading up to the independence of Singapore.

Mike Kasem (Age: 41) as Raj
Sezairi Sezali (Age: 27) as Adi
James Seah 谢宏辉 (Age: 24) as Ah Seng 阿城
Joanne Peh 白薇秀 (Age: 31) as Zhou Jun 周均
Lim Kay Tong 林继堂 (Age: 60) as Lee Kuan Yew 李光耀
Previously, the producers of the movie had unveiled a cast that included Qi and Malaysian actress Deanna Yusoff. Actor Qi Yuwu will play a police officer, Inspector Cheng, while Deanna Yusoff will play Khatijah, a mother and owner of a small business.

Veteran actor Lim Kay Tong has been cast as Singapore’s former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. He has been chosen for the role as he makes a good fit for the character in terms of age. Also, many have agreed that he is suitable for the role and being a Singaporean, one who is identified as the father character in the series “Growing Up”, he certainly scores a lot of brownie points with the older generation.
According to him, “now that he has done his research, he is not totally stressed about it”, after all there is a lot of material available out there. To him it is “by far the most challenging role” because of who his character is but “the process is still the same”.
The film will begin production in November and will be released next year as part of the SG50 celebrations. It is presented by blue3 Pictures and mm2 Entertainment and is supported by the Media Development Authority of Singapore.
