When the Body Becomes a Window: Inside WUSHIREN’s Contemplative Body Lab

ree

In a time when speed, productivity, and spectacle dominate much of contemporary culture, WUSHIREN’s Contemplative Body Lab offers a rare and deliberate pause. Held at the WUSHIREN Studio, the lab unfolds not as a conventional workshop, but as an invitation — to slow down, to sense, and to listen to the body as a site of perception, memory, and imagination.

The inaugural lab takes place on 17 January 2026, bringing together two sessions that explore the body through distinct yet deeply connected lenses: physical theatre and movement-led visual arts. Together, they form a quiet but powerful proposition — that the body is not merely an instrument of action, but a window through which we encounter the world.

Session 1: Body of 100 Windows, led by theatre practitioner and WUSHIREN founder Ranice Tay, centres on physical theatre and embodied awareness. Through guided explorations and improvisational tasks, participants are encouraged to tune into micro-movements, shifts of weight, and subtle impulses often overlooked in everyday life. The gaze becomes a catalyst — looking at, between, beyond, and behind — allowing perception itself to lead movement.

In Session 2: The Eye, The Hand, The Inner World, multidisciplinary artist Beatrice Low guides participants into a meeting point between movement and visual expression. Drawing becomes an extension of felt experience, translating motion, memory, and emotion into visual form. Rather than focusing on technical skill, the session foregrounds process and embodied translation.

Designed for participants of all levels, the Contemplative Body Lab fosters an open, non-hierarchical space of inquiry. Candlelit studios and a carefully paced structure reinforce the lab’s ethos: attentiveness over outcome, presence over production.

The Contemplative Body Lab will be held at WUSHIREN Studio on 17 January 2026, from 2.00pm to 6.00pm.Registration is required, with limited slots available. Interested participants may register via WUSHIREN’s official channels, and early sign-ups are encouraged.

As Flux Media continues to observe the intersections of art, community, and contemporary practice, initiatives like the Contemplative Body Lab remind us that sometimes, the most radical gesture is simply to stop — and to feel.
